Who runs this page
The City Planner is run by ECM Model 64, an Etsy shop that prints city models. To contact us about your data, send us a message on Etsy.
What we never do
- We never ask for your name, email, address, phone number or payment details. You give those to Etsy when you order, not to this page.
- We have no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind, and we do not build profiles of visitors.
- We never sell, rent or share anything you enter.
What happens to what you enter
- The place, size, colours and name on the frame. When you build a 3D preview, these are sent to our server, which builds the model and sends it back. They travel inside the request, not in its web address, so they do not show up in request logs. The server holds only the most recent previews (about eight) in its working memory so you can see yours: each new preview someone builds replaces the oldest, and a server restart clears them all. Nothing is saved to a database.
- Your copied code. The code you paste into your Etsy order describes your model: the place, size, colours and name, and nothing else. From then on it is part of your Etsy order, which Etsy handles under Etsy's privacy policy.
- Your IP address. So that no one visitor can fill the preview queue and lock others out, the server turns your IP address into a scrambled code that cannot be turned back into the address, and keeps only that code, in memory, while your preview is waiting or building. A fresh scrambling key is made every time the server starts. Your actual address is never stored.
Cookies and what is stored on your device
We do not use cookies, and no third party sets any through this page. Your browser does keep two small items in its own local storage, on your device only:
- Your current design (the same code you copy), so your tile, size, colours and name are still there if you come back or reload.
- Your chosen language, if you pick one.
These are never sent to us or to anyone else. They exist only to do what you asked, so there is nothing to opt in to. The Start fresh button deletes your design, and clearing this site's data in your browser deletes both.
Server logs
Our hosting provider (Railway) records basic request logs: the time, your IP address and which part of the page was requested. The place and the name are not in these logs, because they are never part of a web address. If a preview fails to build, our server logs where in our code it failed, never the place or the name. Logs are used only to keep the service running and secure, and are kept for as long as the host's log retention allows.
Other services your browser talks to
To show the map and find places, your browser connects directly to these services, which receive your IP address:
- OpenStreetMap map tiles: the map images, including the area you view. See the OSMF privacy policy.
- Nominatim and Wikipedia: only when you press Find, with the text you searched for. See the OSMF and Wikimedia privacy policies.
Our server fetches the map and elevation data for your tile from Overture Maps, Amazon Web Services' open datasets, OpenFreeMap and the Overpass API. It sends them the tile's coordinates, never your IP address. The page's fonts and code are served by us, not by Google or any other third party.
Why we use it
We use what you enter only to build the preview you asked for and to print the model you order (performing our contract with you, or taking steps you asked for before one). The scrambled visitor code and the host's logs keep the service running and secure (a legitimate interest).
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under Canada's PIPEDA, the EU and UK GDPR, or California law), you can ask what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Send us a message on Etsy. Because we keep nothing beyond the preview you are working on, there is usually nothing stored beyond your Etsy order. You can also complain to your data-protection authority.
Children
This page is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Languages
The City Planner is offered in several languages. This page and the terms are in English, and the English text is the one that applies.
Changes
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and its date.
